The Life of the Capital's Grant Sportsman
Slowly, little by little, the time came for the next MOT for Grants Sport, to which (and only!) The car drove without giving us absolutely no problems. More precisely, almost none: after all, on the eve of winter, cars need to be changed for the season.
The arrival of winter in Moscow dragged on: who knew that there would be no snow here until the end of November? But we attended to the search for winter tires for Grants Sport at the end of October. And they were afraid that we would not have time to change our "swallow" or the "wagtail" in time. For other references, check out the Best Tires for Honda Odyssey and learn more!
They were afraid not without reason, since even in Moscow it was not easy to find a decent selection of tires of rare dimensions 195/50 R16 (these are the tires prescribed for Grants Sport): in numerous tire shops, tires of the required size are not always available. And among those that are, many tires do not fit in principle. The first reason for the "screening" is the presence of spikes (predicting trips to Europe, we decided to take studless tires). The second is the orientation of the tires to the so-called “soft” European winters, and the last circumstance is especially insidious: in the tire description, this feature is usually not indicated, but in practice at -20 ° C such rubber dubs and becomes only slightly better than summer - not for harsh Russian conditions they are, in general. In fact, the entire potential assortment could be counted on fingers: a couple of models from Nokian (Hakkapeliitta R2 and discontinued Hakkapeliitta R), a couple from Yokohama (also fresh IceGuard 50 and obsolete IceGuard 30), a couple of Korean tires (from Hankook and Kumho) and ... Yes, in general, that is all that suited our requirements. The rest, as already mentioned, is either for Europe or with spikes. Or China, which does not inspire confidence in us.

But the rare tire size for Grants Sport poses not only the problem of choice, but also the considerable cost of a set of tires. How much do you think normal winter tires should cost for Lada? Simple domestic - 10 thousand. Imported - within 15 (and I am sure that many owners of Lad will consider such expenses too serious). And with Grant Sport and 25 thousand you can not meet! At least if you really choose the best available - tires from Nokian. Yes, and Japanese Yokohama, even in Moscow at an inexpensive cost of tires in Moscow, in most cases cost no less than 20 thousand. Therefore, when, finally, in one of the online stores we managed to find a set of Nokian Hakkapeliitta R2 at the price of Yokohama, we did not hesitate to order them. And all day, waiting for delivery, they wondered whose production would be: Russia or Finland? Judging by the price tag, the first option was expected. However, the marking “made in finland” was found on the sidewall of the tires brought to us. Fine!
How much do you think tire fitting for a Grant Sport or grand tourer can cost? He cost us - just don’t fall - 3,900 rubles! As a normal owner of Grants (yes, even with the prefix Sport), I would look for something cheaper. But to go to the roadside tire fitting service on low-profile tires when a brave employee meets there with a burning look and the words "brother, what’s the nada done?", You see, it can be more expensive for tires and wheels. In addition, the authorities gave a command - to check what kind of service we get for such a cost.
